Whitewater State Park, 7 miles north of St. Charles on Hwy 74, encompasses 2,700 acres of limestone bluffs, deep ravines, spring-fed trout streams, a sandy swimming beach, and hiking trails from easy to strenuous. Nearly 50 mammal species and 250 bird species use the Whitewater Valley. The park’s 1930s CCC structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is arguably the best free day of the year in SE Minnesota โ don’t sleep on it.
