Mel Brownell Aquatic Center โ€” Summer Season in Full Swing

The Mel Brownell Aquatic Center features a 181-foot water slide, six lap swim lanes, a diving board, a large sun deck, and a concessions area โ€” St. Charles’s full-service community pool. FREE Admission Day โ€” Whitewater State Park

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, every Minnesota state park waives vehicle permit fees โ€” no pass required. Whitewater State Park, 7 miles north of St. Charles on Hwy 74, encompasses 2,700 acres of limestone bluffs, deep ravines, spring-fed trout streams, a sandy swimming beach, and hiking trails from easy to strenuous. Nearly 50 mammal species and 250 bird species use the Whitewater Valley. The park’s 1930s CCC structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is arguably the best free day of the year in SE Minnesota โ€” don’t sleep on it.

Built in 1874 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, the former Trinity Episcopal Church at 805 St. Charles Avenue is a rare example of Carpenter Gothic architecture. Its board-and-batten walls, lancet windows, and open belfry bell tower are well-preserved. No longer an active church, it sits on city park property just west of City Hall.
